CLIFTONVILLE FC boss Jim Magilton admits these are exciting times at the club after a 3-0 victory over Bangor at Clandeboye Park powered the Reds to the summit of the Boyle Sports Premiership on goal difference with two wins from two. On top of that, Cliftonville FC members will vote on Monday night on whether to accept a takeover proposal which could open the door to major investment in the famous old north Belfast club. First-half goals from Kyle McClelland and Ben Quinn put the Reds in command at Bangor before Liam McStravick wrapped up the points after the break. Magilton said: “I’m delighted – a very professional job in the end. The 2-0 half-time scoreline probably flattered us as we’d probably scored against the run of play. “We weren’t clinical enough in the second half but I’m delighted with the result. “Two wins out of two is great but it’s very early doors so nobody is getting carried away. But it’s lovely. It gives players confidence and helps us build a bit of momentum.” As for the vote on Monday as to whether to allow outside investment – an issue that has caused much off-the-pitch upheaval at Solitude – Magilton added: “It’s a big night but it rests with the members – they make that decision. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for the club to advance. If we get the green light that will be fantastic. I look forward to see what happens. But things don’t happen overnight. Everything will still come down to hard work – it’s all about rolling your sleeves up.” Next up for the Reds is Friday night’s visit to Linfield, 2-1 winners over fierce rivals Glentoran at Windsor Park. Darragh Leahy broke the deadlock with a first-half header and Kirk Millar doubled the advantage with 13 minutes remaining before Jordan Stewart pulled one back in injury time – and was then red carded for a challenge on Leahy. Larne began their title defence – last week’s opener at home to Bangor was called off due to European commitments – with a 0-0 draw at last season’s runners-up Coleraine. Larne manager Gary Haveron was angry that his team were forced to play a league match sandwiched between two crucial European ties, particularly with the Irish League on the brink of losing one of the current four European places due to results. “I’m very, very proud of the boys and the resilience they’ve shown yet again. I’ve been very clear on my thoughts of this game going ahead (after a European tie last Tuesday night) but they’re a resilient bunch,” said Haveron. “You don’t win league championships without having that about you. We knew how difficult it was going to be coming here, especially off the back of 120 minutes on Tuesday night, so it wasn’t ideal preparation for this game. “I have no bother with Coleraine wanting to play this game. My complaint is that the Georgian FA step in and remove a game, the Gibraltar FA step in and remove a game. Why does NIFL or the Irish FA not do that? “Why do they not have the power to move a game to the side? Ultimately, for the good of the league, because the knock-on effect is if we make group stages, every club gets an extra £50,000, you have consolidation money. “For the good of the league, we’ve got to see the bigger picture. Tell me one club in the Irish League who could do without £50,000. “I
